Michael attended law school at the University of Houston where he was a member of the legal honor fraternity Phi Delta Phi. He began work as an associate attorney with the Fort Worth law firm of Shannon, Gracey, Ratliff & Miller in 1979 and was a partner from 1983 until the formation of Wallach, Jones & Moore, P.C., in 1991, now known as Wallach & Andrews, P.C.
Professionally, Michael has focused his career on personal injury litigation, primarily defense of physicians and hospitals in health care liability claims. He became Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1984, and a Specialist in Civil Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in 1992. He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He has been a member or officer of the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel from 1990 through the present, serving as President in 2001-02.
In 2007 and 2008, Texas Monthly magazine again conducted its poll (of more than 60,000 Texas lawyers) to determine the top attorneys in Texas and Law & Politics magazine again reviewed the nominations. In the top 5% of the nominations, D. Michael Wallach was again listed and J. Wade
Birdwell joined the list as Texas Super Lawyers.
In 2007 and 2008, Fort Worth, Texas magazine awarded Top Lawyer recognition to D. Michael Wallach and J. Wade Birdwell. Additionally, in 2008, Jennifer M. Andrews was also awarded Top Lawyer recognition by Fort Worth, Texas magazine. Three of the firm's seven attorneys having now been so recognized.

D. Michael Wallach has been an active member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel since 1990 and served as its President in 2001-2002.
